OceanTech achieves ISO 45001 certification

OceanTech has achieved ISO 45001 certification and has been recertified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Together, these certifications confirm that OceanTech’s management systems meet internationally recognised standards for quality, environmental responsibility and occupational health and safety – and that they are consistently applied across our engineering, project management and offshore operations.

OceanTech has achieved ISO 45001 certification for occupational health and safety, and has at the same time been recertified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management). For OceanTech’s customers, the certifications provide independent verification that projects are executed in a structured, traceable and risk-based manner, aligned with the expectations of leading offshore operators.

“ISO 9001 and 14001 have been part of how we work for years,” says OceanTech CEO Bernt Schjetne.

“Achieving ISO 45001 is a natural next step that strengthens our approach to occupational health and safety. Together, these certifications reflect the discipline and accountability required to operate safely in the splash zone."

Strengthening a proven HSE framework

OceanTech operates in one of the most safety-critical offshore environments, where splash zone operations involve constant wave action, limited access and tight weather windows. Over years of global projects, the company has developed robust processes to manage risk, protect personnel and minimise environmental impact.

The recent certification and recertifications reinforce OceanTech’s structured approach to:

  • Planning and executing safety-critical operations

  • Identifying and mitigating HSE risk

  • Reducing environmental impact during offshore campaigns

  • Ensuring consistent quality and repeatability across projects

“Our robotic solutions reduce exposure by removing people from hazardous areas,” Schjetne adds.

“ISO 45001 strengthens how we manage that responsibility at an organisational level, while ISO 9001 and 14001 ensure continuity and improvement as we scale.”

OceanTech’s robotic cleaning, inspection and repair solutions are designed to reduce POB, vessel requirements and emissions, while improving predictability in maintenance and life-extension campaigns. The certifications support the company’s long-term commitment to safer, lower-impact offshore operations in line with operator requirements and regulatory frameworks.

The ISO standards apply across OceanTech’s organisation and activities, including engineering, project execution and operations at the Subsea Test Centre in Trondheim.
